HOMEMADE BELGIAN WAFFLES

Restaurant style Belgian waffles right at your home table. It's never been more easier to make these Belgian waffles for Sunday brunch. Easy, crispy and tasty waffles with maple syrup and fresh fruit.

  • Waffle maker

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (300 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (50 g) sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (500 g) buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp butter for waffle maker or vegetable oil spray

Instructions

  • Preheat waffle maker according to the instructions of your waffle maker.
  • In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  • In another large bowl beat together the eggs with melted butter and vanilla. At the end add the buttermilk.
  • Incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and beat until the texture is smooth.
  • Melt the remaining 2 tbsp of butter in a small bowl and with a kitchen brush, brush the waffle maker.
  • According to the instructions of your waffle maker, pour the recommended amount of waffle batter onto the center of the waffle maker. Cook until the waffle is crispy on both sides and is easily removed from iron. This usually can take in between 2-3 minutes, (more in notes).
  • Serve immediately. Pour over waffles maple syrup and powder with confectioner (icing) sugar.

Notes

Cooking time for waffles
  • The time of cooking for the waffles depends on the power of your waffle maker. The indication of time of doneness in this recipe says  2-3 minutes, but this is a guiding time. It doesn't mean the waffle will be done exactly in this time. Please check your waffle maker/iron instructions for the cooking time. Not all waffle makers operates with the same temperature/time.
